Nueva Gorgona, commonly referred to as Gorgona, is a small town of approximately 2,000 people, and located just about 2-3 miles from the more well-known Coronado and about one hour from Panama City.

This beach town is very popular among expats of any age. Beautiful & quiet beaches great for relaxing. Sometimes you might get a beach all for yourself.

With a very laid back lifestyle you will enjoy top-notch condos with magnificent ocean views. Is an ideal destination if you enjoy a slow and relaxed lifestyle.

The residents are extremely friendly and helpful, but you will need to learn some Spanish. For basic needs, the town has some stores and a medical clinic. But you will find everything else next door in Coronado.

There is an expat community in the San Carlos, Nueva Gorgona & Coronado area. You can get to know each other very easily since the community is small and they have get-togethers and activities that you can join.

Climate

The town has a tropical climate, ideal for beachgoers. The average temperatures are around 79-82F all year long, with daytime max on 85-89F.

In Panama, it rains from April to December, being October the month that gets more rainfall. But the area does not often get heavy rains, so you can be outdoors almost daily.

Getting around

A car is very useful, but there is plenty of public transportation & taxi options. Just remember to call & book taxis in advance.

Healthcare

There is a basic clinic in the town, but Coronado (5 minutes away) has more complete medical facilities & English-speaking doctors.

Shopping & Entertainment

You can find several strip malls with essentially all the amenities needed for everyday life, including:

  • full scale supermarkets (99, Riba Smith, Rey & Machetazo) & grocery stores
